Why Nathan Fillion Didn t Continue Cayde
Nathan Fillion Was Replaced As Cayde-6 For Final Destiny 2 Appearance
Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion confirms that he was unable to return as fan-favorite Cayde-6 for the character's final appearance inDestiny 2. It's the end of an era as Cayde-6 prepares to be killed off in September's Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion. The Exo Guardian has been a mainstay of Destiny and there is a definite sense of sadness that Fillion isn't there to see the swan song.
While Fillion won't be voicing the infamous Hunter Vanguard of the Tower for the final time, the role will instead be filled by voice artist Nolan North. North is no stranger to being a last-minute addition to Destiny and famously re-recorded Peter Dinklage's lines as Ghost for 2015's Taken King expansion.

Speaking on the Kotaku Splitscreen Podcast, Fillion revealed that he couldn't return for one more round as Cayde-6: "I wasn't available for this last installment, it's not me doing the voice for Cayde-6. No, that wasn't me. In a wonderful, amazing turn of events, it's actually Nolan North." Rumors had swirled that it wasn't Fillion's voice behind the mask of Cayde-6 during Destiny 2: Forsaken's E3 trailer, but fans now know that it is North who will (briefly) take over the mantle.
As well as parts in the likes of Wolverine and the X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Rick and Morty, North portrayed Penguin in Rocksteady's Arkham games and Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series. There is a sense of irony to the story considering that North is best-known for voicing Nathan Drake in Naughty Dog's adventure franchise and that Fillion only just starred in a fan-made Uncharted film.
Bungie is aiming for a darker tone with Destiny 2: Forsaken and apparently made the tough decision to kill off the witty Guardian and his one-liners to steer the story in a different direction. That being said, Fillion himself isn't sure that gamers have seen the last of Cayde-6 just yet:
"How do I feel about Cayde-6? I absolutely love him. How do I feel about that character dying? I don't personally believe it, because he's a Guardian. He should be able to come back. I mean that's their whole thing, is that they come back right? The whole thing is the resurrection."
For the time being, though, Destiny 2 players will have to deal with the double whammy that not only do they have to say goodbye to Cayde-6, but Fillion won't even get to wave him off in style. It is some small consolation that someone with North's reputation has stepped up to the plate, but Bungie has missed a trick by not being able to work with Fillion's schedule.
A possible reason is that Bungie simply didn't want to fork out for someone with Fillion's price tag for a relatively short stint. It is no secret that Cayde-6 will bow out early on in the final expansion, so why worry about something relatively minor like replacing a voice actor? Whether North can continue Cayde-6's legacy remains to be seen, but find out whenDestiny 2: Forsaken is released on September 4.
